Undulations Intensive and Building a Choreography: Take your Moves from Mundane to Magic!

You asked for them, and now you've got them! These workshops are sure to help you bring your dancing and performing to a whole new level.
Times:
9:30 AM: Doors open for registration and shopping
10:00 AM - Noon: Undulations Intensive: Spice up your dance repertoire with Blue Moon as they explore the world of sinuous moves that spiral up and down your body, coiling out from your core to captivate your audience. In this workshop, techniques for mastering basic undulations, reverse undulations, upper and lower body moves, belly rolls, and hand and arm undulations will all be covered. You will come away with a better ability to let the music sway your body and to feel more confident in performing these challenging and sensual moves. This workshop is suitable for all styles and levels of belly dance.
12:30 - 2:30 PM: Building a Choreography: Take Your Moves from Mundane to Magic! Have you found that phenomenal song that you are dying to choreograph to but just don't know where to begin? Or a snazzy new prop that you can't wait to show off but just can't find the right song to do it justice? Do you have a lot of moves and combos in your repertoire but no idea how to put them together in a coherent and creative way? Then this is the workshop for you! In this workshop, you will learn tips on choosing the right music, how to interpret your music's phrasing, transitions, rhythms, and mood, how to avoid typical pitfalls and to think outside the box when creating your choreography, and how to maintain the integrity of the music you have chosen. Specific methods for developing a choreography outline and a structure for your piece as well as exercises that will help you decide on entrances, use of space, costuming, flow of moves/combinations and developing thematic elements will be presented. This workshop is suitable for all styles and levels of belly dance.

*March 4:Blue Moon is proud to present an interactive program on the history and cultural impact of belly dance, at Duke University, LGBT Center, West Campus Union Building, 416 Chapel Drive, Durham, NC 27708. 8:00 - 9:30 PM.
This program is being held as part of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, and will feature a discussion of belly dance throughout time as well as a short belly dance demonstration and mini-lesson. Blue Moon is very excited about this opportunity to illustrate how the beauty, joy and grace of this ancient dance form has the power to transform lives by fostering positive self-image, self-acceptance and a strong sense of community and connectedness to something so old and yet so modern. Open to Duke University students, staff and faculty.

Performance slots for the evening hafla are available, but keep in mind that participants of the workshops get priority! This is your chance to express yourself through your dance, your music selection and your imagination! Videos of your personal performance will be available for a $10 fee or you are allowed to video your own performance, but have to ask permission to videotape any other performance.
